Conditions of Participation
for the Hand Hygiene Excellence Award of AESCULAP AKADEMIE GMBH, Tuttlingen (mentioned in the following text as AESCULAP ACADEMY)
1. Registration
Participation is free of charge and open to all hospitals which have adopted the implementation of the WHO multi-modal strategy to increase hand hygiene awareness in their institutions.
Hospitals must be registered at : http://www.who.int/gpsc/5may/register/en/index.html.
The correspondence language is English.
All correspondence is via email.
Winners of the last 2 years not eligible to apply.
Please send us your registration on a completed registration form. You can also register in person by email. You will receive a return confirmation.
2. Cancellation terms
A participant may cancels his/her registration any time free of charge.
3. Modifications to the award
The expert panel members are entitled to make modifications of the award program at any time.
4. Right of cancellation
The expert panel members and the Aesculap Academy shall be entitled to cancel the award program for good cause - even at short notice - especially if
the minimum number of participants is not reached;
other essential conditions for conducting the award have changed.
Any further claims, in particular claims for damages, are excluded.
5. Decision of finalist and winner
The decision on the finalists and winners is based on the assessment of the expert panel members and shall be final.
One winner in each category Hand Hygiene Excellence Award and Hand Hygiene Innovation Award will be announced.
6. Audit procedures
Audit is in accordance with the WHO assessment framework & its step is not in any particular order.
Interview hospital staff, patients & relatives
Look for information as in collected data of compliance, accessibility of information to all staff including WHO Hand Hygiene tools
Observe facility for availability of hand wash & hand rub
Observe for ease of accessibility on placement of sink & drying agent & hand rub (bedside, common areas)
Look out for any form of public information as reminders of the importance of Hand Hygiene
Photo taking
The senior management of the hospital must be informed and permit a one-day audit by two expert panel members and one member of the Aesculap Academy.
7. Announcement of winner
The winning hospitals will be informed by mail and announced on the Hand Hygiene Excellence Award Homepage (www.handhygieneexcellenceaward.com) and on a regional infection control conference.
Two individuals from the winning hospitals shall participate at the Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control (APSIC) congress (for the Asia Pacific Region) or at the International Conference on Prevention & Infection Control (ICPIC) congress (for the European region) or at the Panamerican Congress of Infection Control (for the region Latin America) to present their program and to receive the Award trophy during the award winning ceremony.
8. Sponsorship
B. Braun Medical AG, Switzerland will sponsor the costs for travel to and from the congress for two individuals from the winning hospitals. The senior management of the winning hospitals must be informed of the sponsorship.
9. Data retrieval
With your registration you agree to the storage of your personal data and sharing of information with the expert panel members, the Aesculap Academy and B. Braun Medical AG.
